submitted by h-educate to WorkFromHomeToday [link] [comments] Welcome to my Technical Email Marketing Definitive Guide. In this guide, I will go through all the concepts and topics that you need to understand well before entering the world of email marketing. I will cover the following topics: 1- Email Marketing overview:
1. Email Marketing Overview:What is Email Marketing?Simply, Email Marketing is a type of Digital Marketing, where you collect emails from people in a specific niche (List Building). Then you send emails to those people promoting a service, product, blog, or anything so you can increase your revenue & web traffic. Benefits of Email MarketingThe Main Advantage of Email Marketing, when compared to other digital marketing strategies, is mainly two things:1- Price: Do You Know that you can send up to 100K emails for 10$! I will explain later how you can save a lot of money with Email Marketing, mainly if you use your own email marketing system. 2- Simplicity: With Email Marketing Automation, It’s Simple! Today, We have a lot of email marketing services like MailChimp, Aweber, GetResponse, and other companies where they make everything easy for you when you want to manage your email marketing campaigns, Email Lists, and everything else. And Even if you’re going to use your own System, which will be a lot cheaper, you can have the same simplicity and features as of those companies. Is Email Marketing Still relevant?Of course, YES!
Types of Email Marketers.I dissect Email Marketers into two types:The First Type, I call them “bulk mailers.” and the second type is “Straight Marketers.” Of course, I created these Terms to make it easier for you to understand; it’s not scientific. Bulk mailers: are those people who collect, scrape, or buy people’s emails and start sending them promotional emails to sell them their service or maybe share an affiliate link to earn some commission. They are considered as spammers. Why spammers? Because they are sending emails to people who didn’t permit them to do so, and they don’t know them. Straight Marketers: The “Legal” form of Email Marketing, where websites and business owners send emails to only people who subscribed to their lists promoting their services, and sending updates and newsletters. Email marketing system structureWhere to Start? To make things super simple, when you want to work with Email Marketing, you need to understand the Email Marketing System Architecture. Mainly any Email marketing system consists of two parts:
Now We have two choices: 1- We can go with an Email Marketing Company where it provides both parts together in one platform like MailChimp, Aweber, Getresponse, or other companies. 2- Or you can build your own Email Marketing System by Building or Subscribing to a Sending Service(SMTP) like AWS SES, Mailgun, Mandrill… And Installing an Email Marketing Application Like Mailwizz, Mailster, Mamura, Interspire, or other applications. Then you connect both and have your own system. Using your own System, have only one tiny drawback, which is building the system manually for the first time, which can take around 2-3 days to set up things correctly. But then you will be able to send a 10x amount of emails for lower costs. For example, you can send up to 100K emails for only 10$, YES! 2. Email Marketing System in DeepWhat is SMTP?I mentioned that the first part of an email marketing system is the SMTP service, so what is SMTP?SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a technical term, and it’s simply a network protocol that is responsible for sending emails over the internet. Watch the following video to learn more about SMTP in 4 minutes: https://youtu.be/Qq6VosRBXhw What is Email Marketing Application? Now we have an SMTP server that can send emails, but the main question now is how I can send emails? How can I save my email lists and create email marketing campaigns? How can I monitor my campaigns and automate email messages?Simply, we connect an Email Marketing application to the SMTP service, and then we can manage and control everything, and the app will send emails using the SMTP. Email Marketing Services. The Other Option is to subscribe to an Email Marketing service that will give you both parts (SMTP and the Application) combined in one easy, simple platform, without worrying about any technical stuff.Which email marketing service is the best? When you want to choose any service, you need to think about the following 4 Factors:
Let’s say we have a list of 5000 contacts(emails). And we want to send an unlimited number of emails monthly to those contacts. All Companies will start with at least 49$ per month
2. Features: when we compare features, we see that most of the services have almost the same features. Yes, some may have funnel builders, like GetResponse, and others may give you some image hosting capabilities like AWeber and so on. But when we talk about the core email marketing features, which is List Building and management, Campaign management and monitor, Forms builder and integrations. All these tools have the same powerful features. 3. Simplicity: all these top companies have Simple platforms, and anyone can learn how to work with, in one day. 4. Support: In General, all have excellent support and response. So What to choose? To make things simple for you, if you have just started your online business and you don’t have that big list, and you only need the core email marketing features, just go to the pricing page and get the cheapest service or even you can go with the Free plan. If you feel that you need more features, you can then check each one and the detailed features that are provided by each one, and you can select the best that fits your business. But if your business is growing and you are planning for a big email marketing campaigns, then if you can’t afford the recurring prices of these companies, you can go and build your Email Marketing system. With your system, you can send 100K only for 10$ with an unlimited number of subscribers. Building Your SystemOk, to develop your email marketing system, you need to configure and setup two things:1- The SMTP Server (the sender) 2- The Email Marketing application. You may say: “I don’t have any IT skills, and I don’t want to bother my head with this stuff!” I am here to help you accomplish what you think is hard and make it a piece of cake. YES! 1- Building an SMTP Server with 10/10 as “Sending Score” So the first step is to build the sender server or what we call the SMTP server. We can build this server using several methods and applications:
Don’t worry about these terms now if you are not familiar with it. Or you can build using an SMTP service like AWS SES, Mailgun, Mandrill. And Then Install an Email Marketing Application Like Mailwizz, Mailster, or other applications. Then you connect both and have your system as if you are subscribed to MailChimp or other services. How does this work? You need to configure an SMTP service like Amazon SES, which is the cheapest SMTP service compared to all other SMTP companies and has high performance sending rates with a super delivery score. If you are interested in learning about Amazon SES and how to configure, check the following Video: https://youtu.be/IrSP7soIq3A Or if you want to learn how to build your own SMTP server, you can check this Video also: https://youtu.be/ayalsV9iPws Then the next step is to Setup a Mailing application. You can use several apps. You can check the following Videos to learn how to install Mailwizz and Mailster, which you can get for only a 50$ one-time payment. The first thing you need is to plan a strategy for your business and think about how you are going to collect leads (emails) and build your email lists. So List Building is the act of collecting emails into organized Lists. So you can send them emails… I think it’s obvious. What is a Lead Magnet? The easiest and the most common way used to build Email Lists properly is by using a Lead Magnet.Simply, a lead magnet is giving something free to people in exchange for their email addresses. It can be a free ebook, free course, software, or anything. But it’s preferred to be related to your service and people’s interest so that you can build a targeted email list. Also, it’s essential to give a High-Quality Lead magnet, so people will trust you and will love maybe to get your premium paid services later when you promote through emails. Also, there are a lot of other methods and tactics you can use to build a Targeted email list. You can check this video here if you want more info: https://youtu.be/CcJdNZ1RkTk It is the concept of list Building in General, Lets now discuss some more details and other methods to build and grow your email lists and go somehow practically. 1- Subscription Newsletter It is the basic strategy of collecting emails. If you visit almost any website, you will see a box somewhere on the page asking you if you would like to subscribe to the newsletter and get updates. So if you are interested in that’s website’s content, you will subscribe to get their updates. How to add subscription forms? It is super simple today because almost everybody is using WordPress, Blogger, Joomla, or even an already made website that includes such types of forms by default. What you need to do is simply to connect these forms with your Email marketing systems like MailChimp, Aweber, or your own Application like mailwizz or Mailster. 2- Popup or slide in Optin boxes You can use timed popups on your website that will appear on your website while someone is reading an article or so. Best practices and Tips: Sense of humor: To increase your email lists, you might want to try injecting some personality into your call to actions, like this one from Optimonk: Give value in the call to actions: example, use the following keywords: “Download,” “Featured,” “Exclusive,” “Access,” instead of “Sign Up” and such traditional phrases. Let people feel about the value or what they will get when they subscribe. Use Timing: psychologically, you will get more people to subscribe if you set the offer for a limited time, you can show a countdown timer to stimulate people to get your offer before it ends. 3- Inject your newsletter on social media, forum’s profile, and email signatures. If you have a following on Twitter, LinkedIn, a fan base on Facebook, Pinterest, Quora, or whatever Social network or Discussion forums, Try to inject your Newsletter in these places to get new subscribers. 4- Running a Giveaway: Giveaways are known as one of the top strategies in growing, not only in building your email list but also growing on social media, YouTube, and other platforms. You can use platforms like easypromosapp, rafflecopter, shortstack, or gleam.io to create and manage a Giveaway. 5- Facebook Lead Ads (paid): You can use Facebook Ads to run a campaign and set the target to collect leads, so then people will be able to sign up directly from within Facebook. Then you can export the email list to your email marketing application from Facebook. There are a lot of other tips and strategies that you can follow in building email lists, but this was a highlight on the top known strategies that marketers use. 1000 Leads Case Study:In the following video, I want to share with you How I collected 10000 Targeted leads in one month for Free! Without Ads.https://youtu.be/zftC7Oc3GV4 Ok, now we have our Lists, Our System, Let’s Market! So now, after we built our email marketing system and built our email list, you can start sending emails and marketing our services. But before you click send, there are some critical terminologies and concepts that you have to know. 4- Important Terminologies.Open and Click Rates:When you send an email marketing campaign, as an example, you sent a message to 1000 people.Obviously, not everyone will open the message. So the percentage of people who open the message is the open rate of this campaign. I think the idea is simple. For example, if 300 people opened the message, then the open rate is 30%. The same for click rate, it is the percentage of people who clicked in any click inside the message, It’s essential to monitor both Open and Click rates and analyze the results to see how much your campaigns are successful. How to monitor? Usually, all email marketing applications have this built-in functionality. So whether you have your own email marketing system, or if you are subscribed to an email marketing service (as we explained before), you will be able to monitor these metrics very easily. What you have to know also that you can do a split test. You split your campaign into two campaigns, and you can change the subject line and the content, or use different SMTP servers, and then you compare and see which campaign performed better. Please help!” “How to avoid spam filters?” and similar questions. When you send an email to anyone, your email may be classified as a spam email, and it will not reach the inbox. So the recipient will not be notified about the message, and this decreases your open and clicks rates, which will make your email marketing campaigns fail. Why are Emails marked as spam? Mainly, we have three main factors that may filter your emails as spam. 1- Spammy Keywords: there is a list of keywords and words that are categorized as spam keywords, so if your message or subject contains one of these keywords, your message will be probably marked as spam. 2- DNS records and message signing: (Dkim, rDNS, SPF): SPF (Sender Policy Framework): An SPF record is a TXT record that is added to your Domain DNS Zone and allows you to set the mail servers that are allowed to send emails from your domain. Messages sent from a server that isn’t included in the SPF record will be marked as spam or rejected. As an example, you can’t send an email from your own server and set your sending email as “mail@google.com,” you can’t use google’s domain. It indicates that you are trying to spam. In the same way, you can configure SPF and prevent anyone from using your domain to send emails, So setting SPF is very important when it comes to making your domain trusted by other mailing providers. To set up SPF. Open your DNS zone in and add the following record: v=spf1 a ip4:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX ~all *Replace with your server IP. Now only your server can send emails from your domain. Dkim (DomainKeys Identified Mail) : A Dkim record is also a text record in your DNS that holds a public authentication key. This key will be validated using a private key saved privately inside your server. All emails will be signed, and this will avoid any alterations and protect your email originality, and this is very important for your server to archive high sending scores. rDNS (Reverse DNS): The reverse DNS is called a pointer record and is used to point your IP to your Domain, its the inverse of the regular DNS A record. So when you call the IP, you will get the name. It is also an essential factor in setting up your mail server and increasing your sending score and reputation. 3- Email List Health: Keeping your email lists healthy and clean is very important to keep your Mailing system healthy. To keep your Email list healthy, you should always clean it from any inactive or invalid emails that may cause your bounce rate to increase, and this will hurt your reputation. IP & Domain reputationWhen you build an SMTP server or subscribe to an SMTP service like Amazon SES and get a dedicated IP for you.You will have a score for your IP and your Domain. This score determines if your server will send it to the inbox or not. So Higher Score means a good reputation, which means better delivery to the inbox. Email Bouncing.Bounce rates and bounce handling is a critical point to take care if you want to run a professional and successful email marketing campaigns. What is a Bounced Email? Simply, when you send an email to someone, and it’s not delivered to any reason, it will bounce back. So it’s called a bounced email. Why Emails Bounce? The Main Reason for is when the target recipient’s email is not available or doesn’t exist. Sometimes the target email is temporarily down, so you get a Soft Bounce, and if it doesn’t exist at all, it will be a Hard Bounce. The main thing that you must know is that Bounce rate will have a significant effect on your email marketing system, because higher bounce rates may get you blacklisted and make your IP and Domain Reputation lower. And this will cause your emails to be marked as spam. Hi Friends. Today, I want to share with you my own experience in online business. And how I moved From 1k$ to 10k$ per month in less than two years (~ 18 Months). First of all, I will share the top 5 strategies to work online and build a real online business. Those strategies allow you to make excellent and stable revenue monthly. Here we are:
1. Content creation:You can create anything like Blog Posts, YouTube Videos, online Courses, social media posts, e-books, podcasts, webinars, images, anything! and then earn money by selling the content, monetizing with Ads, or sponsoring other companies or even use as lead magnets or promotion for your paid services. (I will explain this in detail later)Example 1: Creating a blog and writing about something that you know and love.Question: How to make money online with a Blog? Here comes the important question, how to make money from my blog? Mainly, we have three methods to make money online from Blog writing content. The first one is: 1. Make money promoting your other premium services.Simply, a Blog Article or post can be one of your primary sources to get new customers and get more sales by promoting your paid services related to the article a person is reading.Example: if you open now this article “How to Land your emails in inbox (The Ultimate Guide)” you will notice that Iam promoting my premium courses within the article. In my case, the article is getting me more sales. So Simple! Or simply look at the right widgets, you will see some ads to my other services and courses. 2. Make money by monetizing your blog with Ads.The second method to make money with your blog is to publish Ads. This method is one of the most popular. It can be Ads managed by Ad Networks like Google Adsense or Media.net. Or Maybe Selling Ad Spaces Manually or using companies like BuysellAds.If you are using Google Adsense or similar networks to monetize, you have to know that your blog content and topics are the main factors for increasing your revenue. As an example, a blog about Food or Gaming will have much less revenue than blogs talking about digital marketing or insurance companies. If you go now to H-supertools free keyword tool and search for this keyword: “learning cooking,” you will see the following results: https://preview.redd.it/dyn9nbsztha61.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=42ba0b9933a6cfd35128b9733f08a97b1a27206f The CPC (cost per click is 1.35$) While if you search for “Email Marketing companies“, you will see the following: https://preview.redd.it/wtx44do1uha61.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=dbd312e42feac9469a37969c3583e90decaad695 The CPC (cost per click is 18.55$) which is much more higher than the first keyword. So, if you are writing articles about email marketing, the type of ads published will get you much more revenue than writing about food or gaming. Make money promoting affiliate products.I will talk about this in deep when I go over affiliate marketing. but in short, you can also earn money from your blog by linking to affiliate products and earn commissions on each referral.📷Question: how do we get traffic? Mainly, we get traffic using the following methods: 1. SEO: by ranking your website and your posts on the top of search engines. So you can get free and organic traffic. 2. YouTube, which is one of the best sources of traffic. You create videos about your content and link back to your website. (I will talk about youtube in the next example) 3. Forums, search for forums related to your content and help others by sharing what u know and link to your website (DON’T SPAM). Also, don’t forget, Reddit, which is a great place to get free traffic. Now, In my case, I started my own Forum and this helped me get more traffic by letting people ask questions on my own forum. 4. Quora Q&A, this is one of the fastest methods to get traffic. It’s by answering questions on Quora and linking back to your site. ( I do get thousands of views on Quora every month from my answers. It works) https://preview.redd.it/che6ad28uha61.png?width=940&format=png&auto=webp&s=ecd610e242eb2e0caa8db19eca43d3b2980e5f79 Check this video to see how I to use Quora and get the more traffic from it: https://youtu.be/RlHUjPolmhk 5. Also, you can run paid ads on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Google, Quora, or any native ads platform to drive traffic to your website and grow your audience. I did a small case study like one year ago and showed how 20$ made me 500$ with one campaign, you can check it here: https://youtu.be/nQ6WVKjLMIY 9. Email Marketing, always make sure to build your email lists, which will be one of the top sources of traffic for your websites by sending newsletters to your Subscribers. Then when you reach 1K subscribers and 4000 hours watch time, you can monetize your channel with ads and earn from 1 to 20$ or more per 1k views. Depending on your audience and your target keywords.Question: how to grow your YouTube channel? In general, there are two ways to grow your channel. 1. YouTube suggestions: where YouTube will start suggesting your videos on the top of other popular videos. Ex: you pick a trending video or topic and you create a similar High-Quality Video, and optimize the metadata (Title, Thumbnail, Description, and Tags) https://preview.redd.it/jxcpptzmuha61.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=3f584d10995e42d6e3e34631a5fcbd759cbcbc2e 2. Video SEO: which is ranking your videos on top of YouTube search results by optimizing your title, and metadata for a specific keyword. you can use tools like Tubebuddy, Vidiq, H-supertools, and others to grow your channel. https://preview.redd.it/y6ur97xouha61.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=72617e78e9f5357106b86524ff7a235eab65fa79 If you would like to see exactly how do I rank my videos on top of Youtube, You can check the following video: Free YouTube keyword research Tool to grow your channel fast in 2020 Example 3, creating online coursesIf you love to share your knowledge and teach others what you know, you can create online courses on platforms likehttps://youtu.be/pWenUOgtT-4 So you can be an online instructor and teach what you love. These are three examples of content creation that I think it’s the most popular today. Now, what’s nice is that you can use content creation as a marketing tool for affiliate which is our second method in making money online. 2. Affiliate marketing:It’s one of the most popular methods to make money online, why?Simply because you will be promoting only! How? You will promote products and services for other people so you are not required to create services or buy products. Just promote, share, refer, and earn commissions. Example 1: Amazon affiliate program. You can join this program and start promoting any product in amazon and you will get a commission on each sale referred by you.Don’t forget that you can combine content creation with affiliate by sharing referrals and affiliate links on your YouTube channel, blog, ebooks, courses and this will help you drive more traffic and referrals to the products and obviously making more money. Example 2: Recurring Commission.Another perfect example of affiliate marketing is to join services that pay monthly recurring commissions on each customer you refer, a good example is Clickfunnels which will pay you a monthly commission for each customer or user signs up using your own referral link.Think about it! It’s really a great option. Create a blog post, or a video on youtube about Clickfunnels, rank your content, refer people, and earn money! Check Also, How I stared making 500$ passive income per month on Envato affiliate program in only 3 months case study in this video: https://youtu.be/gggj-L7JmzA 3. Freelancing:This method requires 0$ and No time. It requires only your skills! Any Skill! Here you will provide any service online. Any skills like writing, translation, transcribing, digital marketing, graphic design, logos… any skill you have, you can provide as a freelancer online. You publish your services on websites like fiverr, upwork, freelancer, and when someone asks for your services, you will do it. So no need to do anything, just wait for a client. Here it’s important to give great service because you will grow and become more popular depending on the reviews. Later on, if you have some followers or audience, you can run your own website and sell your services on, as I do on my services website. So you will earn all the money without losing commissions. Now, someone may ask, are there any services that I can provide without any prior knowledge to start with as a beginner? Short answer, YES There are some services that don’t require any skill, and you can start with as a beginner, you can check it here in this video: 5 Fiverr Gigs that require no skills & Zero-Knowledge | Make Money Online Today! Providing SAAS services and apps.Question: What is SAAS?Software as a service or SAAS is an online application (a web application) that you provide to people in exchange for a monthly membership. A simple example: Netflix, you pay monthly to use their service. Another example, So this is SAAS. Now you may tell me, “Iam, not a programmer ”, I dont have any web application, I can’t afford to hire a developer! what can I do?? Don’t worry , today, you can buy a full saas service from websites like codecanyon for 30 – 60$ and host on a server and provide the service. And this is what I explained in detail and showed how I ran one of my SAAS Services (L-ink.me URL shortener)that I bought from Codecanyon a couple of months ago and today I have more than 250 customers. You can check the detailed video here if you like: How to start an online business from home for beginners | SAAS Example Or watch Now: https://youtu.be/ax2ctP7x87g The hard part here is not the application. Simple calculations : 100 customers for 10$ per month= 1K $ 📷 And imagine how much you can make if you grow more. Or if your service price was a bit higher. If you are a developer, you can build your own membership saas site. It’s up to you anyway. I do run 2 services, as I will explain in a minute when I share with you my whole online business and how do I make money. 5. Online store. This may require some investment and more time and work. As you will need to build your online store, buy products, promote, and then you will see results. Here you have an option to go with dropshipping or Amazon FBA where you buy products online from Aliexpress as an example and sell on Amazon. I just published my courses and waited for udemy to promote the courses for me. My monthly revenue for that period was like 200-300$. Not bad, ha📷 The next year, I decided to start my website, and add some content, but like anybody else starting a new website, I GOT NO TRAFFIC! A couple of months later, I decided to start my YouTube channel, and this was an important change in my work online, my videos started to rank after I followed the Video SEO tips I mentioned before. And I started getting traffic on my site from YouTube, I built my email lists and started growing. Then I started answering questions on Quora, to get more traffic. this was really very important, I mentioned that in the video I shared earlier here. After one year, (2019) this is the results:

Asia is a real plum for app developers. Western markets have long since become oversaturated and growth has slowed, but the Asian market continues a trend of dynamic growth. The question is how to get on board. submitted by ritis88 to gamedev [link] [comments] In this article we’ll be talking about trends and methods of promoting mobile games and apps in Korea, Japan, China, and other Asian countries. What types of games are the most popular?Games are tremendously popular in Asia: in 2019 the populace of the Asia-Pacific region spent over $70 billion on games, which currently accounts for half the global games market. Most of this revenue came from China, Japan, and Korea. Here are the most popular mobile game genres by country: https://preview.redd.it/no7wwxo3o8551.jpg?width=669&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9e16cf0de9043bce1875179558081b4a1c1681e RPG is a popular genre in many Asian countries. Hyper-casual games are another high-interest category. Chinese players are often fond of eSports games, and Shanghai and Hong Kong regularly host offline eSports matches. This is linked to China’s strong tradition of team play: the Chinese enjoy doing things as a group. Dominant storesIn Western countries things are very simple: you have Google Play and the App Store, period. Asia, however, is a little different. For example, China has the App Store, but Google and all its services are prohibited. In place of Google Play (and accounting for 70% of the mobile market) there are around 400 local Android stores. Interestingly, each of these stores has its own focus, with some publishing games exclusively. Working with these stores is easiest through local publishers. More on that later. In Japan the App Store dominates, while Google Play reigns supreme in Korea, but both countries also have alternative stores. For example, one of the biggest Android stores is Korea’s OneStore. Taiwan and Hong Kong have both the App Store and Google Play. One way to stand out among other apps is through featuring. WeQ partners with Huawei and can arrange for featuring in Huawei’s store — the App Gallery — in the following categories: New Apps we Love, New Games we Love, and Top-Rated Apps. User purchasing powerJapan is the most attractive country in terms of profits, with over 70 million smartphone owners, users who are ready and willing to pay (nearly half of all players spend money on mobile games), and a high ARPU (average revenue per user) — $200. Compare this to the ARPU in the USA ($72), China ($40), and South Korea — $108 (source Statista).Interestingly, in Japan women spend money on games more readily than men, and so many companies create games and marketing campaigns that specifically target female consumers. As with every country, players in Asia prefer the freemium model. However, users are willing to pay for quality apps and the ability to customize. Speaking of purchasing power, it should be noted that many users in Asia are not accustomed to paying by credit card. In China people use WeChat Pay and Alipay for in-app purchases; in Vietnam the electronic wallets MoMo, ZaloPay, and VTCPay are preferred; and in Korea Kakao Pay was recently added as a payment option in the App Store. Promotional channelsSocial mediahttps://preview.redd.it/6120zxz5o8551.jpg?width=879&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1eec1c84563d503fb7c34e716f8334dcabaa6734*The messaging app Line is also popular in Indonesia and Thailand. As you see, China has no Western platforms whatsoever: they are all blocked. But such is not the case in Taiwan and Hong Kong, as these are considered separate countries. The political relationship between mainland China and Taiwan and Hong Kong remains tense, and so China’s vastly popular WeChat app is not as widespread in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The main messengers in Asia are in fact super-apps in which users can not only communicate, but also post photos, play games, order food, send money, hail a taxi, submit credit applications, etc. It’s no wonder that users readily spend considerable time using them. Most importantly, nearly the entire population of Japan, China, and Korea is concentrated in these super-apps, making them ideal platforms for promoting your apps. Their reach is out of this world: KakaoTalk is used by 93% of Koreans, Line by 91% of Taiwanese and 65% of Japanese, and WeChat by 78% of Chinese. The broad functionality of local messengers makes them comparable to social networks. Although Western social networks do see use in the majority of Asian countries, local social networks are preferred. For example, Koreans use Facebook, but KakaoTalk and Line are far more popular. One exception is the ubiquitous YouTube, as well as Twitter, which is much loved in Japan. Important! In Asia people are used to using their favorite social network to sign into apps. Korean users, for instance, will expect you to offer four options: Google, Naver, Kakao, and Facebook; while the Chinese will be looking for sign-in via WeChat or telephone number. How to promote your app on super-apps?You can advertise through influencers or create a corporate account and offer your followers coupons, in-app gifts, or fun stickers. Asian users like these so much that a cool sticker collection is a genuine motivation to follow you.Typical stickers in the messenger Line You can send out a mailing to your social networking followers. Whereas in the West companies usually collect email addresses and send out mass emails, in Asia it is easier to reach your users via messengers. You can also automate interaction with your subscribers using special tools such as China’s WeChatify. Also popular are various contests in conjunction with local holidays, the end of the school year, etc. Users receive perks in your app or service for participating, and your company gets free viral advertising. These kinds of events are important for user retention and monetization. Each social network has its own nuances: before advertising on a network you need to determine whether its target audience is a good fit for you. For example, the Japanese view Facebook as a “working network” — the Japanese equivalent of LinkedIn. Instagram is popular among women under 30. The majority of Japanese Line users are people over 40, which is hardly surprising, the Japanese being an aging nation. And TikTok attracts school-age children and young people under 24, just like everywhere else in the world. Search engines and blogging platformsMajor search engines offer advertising in the style of Google Ads. This kind of advertising is available from China’s Baidu, Korea’s Naver, and Japan’s Yahoo! Japan. Then there are forums and blogging platforms: Naver Cafe and Naver Blog in Korea, Baidu Tieba (the Chinese Reddit), Zhihu (the Chinese Quora), Douban (the Chinese Medium), and Bilibili in China, and Gamewith and game8 in Japan. Incidentally, the Japanese love to pore over gaming websites in search of new arrivals, and they also typically pre-register for games. You can select a well-known blogger and request them to review your game or app. You can also publish articles about your new game or app in gaming communities and on various forums. Using the online service Nitro you can translate your article into Korean, Japanese, or Chinese. The least effective promotion channel is Instagram. For comparison, KakaoTalk is used by over 30 million Koreans, while Instagram has only around 3 million users. Even the Instagram accounts of mobile gaming giants like Netmarble enjoy little popularity. Other kinds of advertisingIn Japan and Taiwan pre-registration for mobile games is quite popular. https://www.yoyaku-top10.jp is the largest Japanese website for pre-registration campaigns. An effective approach is to plan publication in gamedev communities and on gaming websites, then add a pre-registration link. If you have not planned for this, you can always launch a paid campaign to drive traffic to your pre-registration webpage.Your app can be one of those that comes preinstalled on new Android devices, so that interested users can easily download it just by tapping on the icon. WeQ can assist with this kind of advertising. You can also send push notifications to these users, encouraging them to open the app. Offline advertisingIn Asia, offline advertising of mobile games and apps is very widespread: ads can be seen every day in the subway, on buses, at bus stops, etc. Nor is offline marketing the exclusive domain of huge companies: this channel works for companies of all sizes, and it can be surprisingly affordable. Why is offline advertising considered effective? Densely populated Asia is home to many metropolises, such as Taipei (Taiwan), Seoul, and Shenzhen. In Hong Kong alone the populace is almost 5 times more dense than in London! Naturally, advertisements in cities like these are seen by an enormous number of people. In China promoters often frequent university campuses, handing out fliers with QR codes to download apps. Sometimes downloading the app from the flier earns the user in-app bonuses. The Chinese themselves tend to feel that when a developer invests in offline advertising, their app is likely to be of high quality. Offline marketing is handled by a local advertising agency or publisher. WeQ recommends first evaluating the effect of online promotion before considering offline advertising. We have yet to mention one vastly popular promotion channel: influencers. This channel deserves special attention. Influencers: Asia’s most happening trendAlthough influencers enjoy popularity in the West, in Asia this trend extends not only to apparel and cosmetics, but also to the gaming industry. The influencer industry is seeing particularly large-scale growth in Korea and Taiwan. Well-known gamers promote games on YouTube, Twitch, and AfreecaTV (a Korean platform similar to Twitch). Banners frequently combine a real-life celebrity with animated characters. Here, for example, is a campaign targeting players from Hong Kong, where a local celebrity advertises a new game from Chinese developer NetEase. Source: https://lvup.hk/10718 Employing celebrities in advertising is so widely developed that sometimes offline events are even held, where role-playing games are enacted in which one of the main characters is played by the celebrity (of course, only AAA titles can afford advertisements on this scale). Below is how a promo video hosted by a celebrity can look. Here we see a top Taiwanese model advertising a game from developer Gamamobi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZy9SRHQQsc Naturally, the majority of developers cannot afford to hire celebrities to advertise their product. But there are numerous local micro-influencers who can create promotional content for you on platforms like China’s Bilibili (which specializes in anime and games), Korea’s Naver Cafe and Naver Blog, etc. Hiring a local advertising agency is not a prerequisite for partnering with influencers. Considering the language barrier, however, it is easier to contact an agency or entrust WeQ with selecting an influencer. They offer a service for this very purpose: WeQ Influencer. Do I really need a local publisher?Usually, yes. For example, in China you can’t even release a game without a publisher, since you have to complete the complex registration process. Requirements at various stages include a knowledge of Chinese, a Chinese telephone number, and other hurdles. Bear in mind that although it is far easier to release a game in Hong Kong or Taiwan than in mainland China, you will still have to partner with a publisher. Even Chinese giant Tencent can’t release a game in Taiwan without a publisher’s assistance. In Japan and Korea a local publisher is not mandatory, but such publishers can maintain your accounts on local social networks and suggest ideas for banners and promotions. What about localization?Although many educated users speak English, they still prefer apps in their native language. But localization raises numerous questions.Traditional or simplified Chinese? WeQ recommends both options. The main thing is not to confuse the two: in mainland China simplified Chinese is used, while Hong Kong and Taiwan use traditional Chinese. Although users in China understand traditional characters for the most part, reading them is unfamiliar and awkward. And natives of Hong Kong and Taiwan may actually be offended by the use of simplified characters (bear in mind the negative stance of Taiwan and Hong Kong toward mainland China). Although it’s a temptation to stop at simplified Chinese (there are nearly 900 million users there, after all), Taiwan and Hong Kong are home to more financially reliable, “Western” users. This is why Wachanga, which has already translated its apps into 50 languages, added traditional Chinese and the Hong Kong dialect to their number. What to translate? One approach is to begin by translating creatives, screenshots, and descriptions for the app page (a favorite tactic of Duck Rockets, which we covered in this article). Translating creatives is not complicated, and the results can surpass all expectations: for example, the CTR index for a Japanese creative from our client Narcade was 70%, compared to a mere 30% for the same creative in English. An easy way to translate short texts like this is to use Nitro: translations are not only quick, but also dependable, since they are handled exclusively by native speakers. If you are getting frequently repeated questions or complaints in your app’s reviews, translate stock answers into key languages. Most importantly, do not use machine translation for these: it tends to fail miserably with East Asian languages such as Chinese and Japanese. Is there anything that conflicts with Asia’s cultural norms? In our clients’ experience, most Asian users are fairly loyal. The biggest problems arise with the Chinese commission, which decides whether or not to give an app the green light. Standard taboos include blood of any color, skeletons, and even the slightest hint of “improper” moral values. For example, the studio Full HP had to redo a harmless pixelated man-fairy wearing a dress, transforming him into a properly attired Chinese manager. In Japan and Korea the character raised no eyebrows. Important! The Chinese commission does not permit English words in apps — even the most basic, such as “winner.” All text must absolutely be in simplified Chinese. App design and local cultureAsian apps differ strongly in style from what we are used to in the West. Typical elements include cartoon and anime characters, a youthful design (cute animals, enlarged heads), and a screen saturated with information. Apps tend to try to cram all the information into a single app screen.Bilibili is a popular Chinese website with a typical Asian look and feel: https://preview.redd.it/dqjepssbo8551.jpg?width=1344&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4436a57ad874eeb8e41416ec56bec7b87870427f For Japanese players the design is more important than the actual game. A sure-fire approach is to employ a cute anime style, because anime culture is incredibly widespread among all ages. Many Japanese games are based specifically on manga (comics), the best-known of which is Monster Strike — a game popular both in Japan and in Taiwan. Numerous holidays are an excellent occasion for new events. On holidays people spend more time than usual using their smartphones, meaning that profits from in-game purchases increase several times over. Aside from the Lunar New Year (celebrated in China, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand), many Asian countries celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. China has the Dragon Boat Festival, Japan celebrates the Golden Week, and there are many other holidays besides. The number 4 is considered unlucky in China, Korea, and Japan: the word for “four” sounds like the word for “death,” and is avoided. Likewise, in Chinese culture a name written in red signifies a curse, so the names of game characters should not be written in red letters. Lucky numbers are 8 in China and 7 in Korea. This may come into play in apps with games of chance. In China a widespread tradition is to give money in a red envelope (hong bao), and in the WeChat messenger people can send each other virtual hong bao. You can employ this concept to create unique bonuses for your app. Incidentally, Japan has a similar tradition, but the Japanese use white envelopes. Summary
