aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Edit: Bless
u/CanaMeow for tagging everyone because by the time I finished this at 3am last night (this morning I guess) I was so tired I didn't even think to !!!!! Frig
So I didn’t get my thank-yous in before the decade ended, lol. Guess my resolution is to start thanking people in a reasonable amount of time. So here I go, starting with all my recent holiday cards ! <3 Hope everyone had a great month celebrating whatever you celebrate (or not) :)
Here are a few pics :) I wrote an individual message to each sender below the following list. Thank you to:
u/midnightmems - Thank you for the SWEET holiday card <3 (Please don’t worry about running out of cards?? You DEF have good taste!) I’m not a fan of gingerbread or sugar cookies, but they do look cute!! My treats of choice this month have been double chocolate chip cookies, M&M cookies, and cinnamon rolls. NOM . Hope you managed okay with your in-laws visit, lol. Perks of being single ;) I didn’t even see my own family; I stayed on the east coast to work. I worked on Christmas day and I am working today and tomorrow. It’s a fun job, though, and I enjoy hanging out with my coworkers and residents:) ! The washi you used and the samples you sent are all adorable ! Thanks! <3
u/mlcathcart - This card is just too cute. I love the lil seals, they’re much more cuddly looking than they are in person. (They are dark hungry blobs in real life!!!) The stickers you used and the stickers you sent me are ADORBS :)) Thank you so much, friend. There have been MANY cookies in my life this month , hehe (see above). Maybe not as many as your mom makes, though ! I don’t have any new year’s resolutions. I don’t really feel up to it this year ! I just want to keep up my efforts in everything, keep learning and trying my best :) Best of luck with your health goals! I know you can do it:)
u/bamagg - Thank you so much for sending me a holiday card :)) The front of this card is so unique, is it a psychiatrist reading a book while an angel toots a horn in his face lol?? Edward Gorey is an unusual fella, haha. You have THE most beautiful washi too ! I LOVE the cats, and the glittery icicles are so so pretty. Thank you for the stickers too. :D Have a wonderful 2020, GG <3
u/bubs57 - Hey, new friend!! Thank you very much for sending my this cute RAOC secret santa card!! I LOVE how you drew a little cat for me <3 <3 hehe. I hope you had lots of fun and lots of treats at Christmas! I know I have been; I’ve been working, but I love my work! Plus, I’ll be off for a few months while I focus on school starting up again next week!
u/dwrfstr - Um, I LOVE this Krampus card??? Thank you so much for indulging my weirdness hahaha. Sending this yummy looking tea and the HP sticker with it, is really sweet of you ! <3 Since I haven’t tried the tea yet, I actually JUST noticed the adorable drawing behind it!! Omg! How friggen cute is that! I love the metallic decorations you added. Your Christmas Eve tradition is cute as hell!! I love that. It would be really special and magical for the kids especially. I haven’t been with family this Christmas, but as we’ve grown older (and less into presents), we have been spending the morning going out for a delish traditional Québécois breakfast. There’s a great place back home that serves crêpes, bacon, ham, baked beans, eggs in a million ways, croques-madames, toast with creton (my fav), and fresh juices! I am a bit sad that I haven’t done that with my mom this month. But, maybe I can find someone to go for breakfast with me tomorrow morning before I go to work. :)
u/soft_distortion - Thank you so much for the holiday card, lovely <3 !! I had a Christmas card picked out for you and carried notepaper in my work bag so many times, intending to write to you, but it never happened :( I’m having issues with being able to sit down and focus. I do think of you, and hopefully I can write to you again, but either way I am so glad to have connected. :) The card you chose to send me is so beautiful and I will have to keep it up all winter. I also adore that you sent me a recipe card - I have a cute thrifted recipe binder and this one is going straight into that. I was talking about craving pancakes with my friend B just the other, and I just might have to make these for him!
u/SaintMeris - Thank you for sending this winter-y postcard with so many beautiful touches :) This thank-you is almost 2 months after you posted it..!! I am sorry for that. I sincerely did appreciate this, so much. You included details of my interests which is so special and sweet of you <3 I love these silly dancing cats and all the beautiful stickers. How was your first Christmas in Finland? Any traditions that you especially liked? I feel that I had an untraditional Christmas, as I worked during each of the national holidays. However, I enjoyed going to work and having a nice day with the residents that I look after:) For some of the people I work with, the change in routine of holidays is stressful; we actually tried to make it more of a “normal day” for them, but we did play holiday movies on TV. One man in particular enjoyed us singing along to Christmas music :)
u/shadesoflanternhill - aaaaaaaaa, lovely friend, how nice of you to send one of your lovely packages my way. I do so love a cute cat card, and this one is SO sweet ! The little bug eyed cat suspicious of the pheasant… haha ! Are there pheasants (?) roaming Japan? The pests back home were wild turkeys. They are enormous and loud and honestly, kind of ugly and dumb lol. I once was driving down a back road in winter and came upon a gaggle of 30+ turkeys across the whole road, I slowed right down to a crawl as they attempted to run away (following the road!) with their little legs, until they finally remembered they could fly and got off the road!! This image in particular reminds me of an old couple who lived in the woods that I used to look after, they didn’t have any pets but you would always see the tracks in the snow from all the wild turkeys that visited their house each morning to be fed. Thank you as always for the cute way you decorated everything and the little surprises :)
u/TurdQueen - Turdy ! (I dont know why it comes to mind to call you that). Thank you so much for this absolutely adorable Peanuts-themed Christmas mail.! Of all the holiday movies I watched on TV this year, I didn’t actually watch Charlie Brown Christmas. I actually didn’t catch any of the “old” ones from childhood..! Did you? The glittery card is really really flipping cute, and I used some of what you sent in mail to my momma :) I did have a pretty relaxing break; I had planned on getting a lot more done, but didn’t ! Unfortunately, I’ve also been putting off laundry, so I have an enormous mountain of clothes/linens to wash before break is over after this weekend…. ! Did you have a relaxing time? I hope you were safe during the stormy weather that I heard about. <3
u/StephanieTay - Can’t thank you enough for the sweet holiday cards & more I received from you the past couple months. :) You have such good taste in cards!! I always loved seeing a note from you (in your recognizable perfectly tiny handwriting!) in my mailbox, it makes me smile:) It is especially kind and thoughtful of you to send these cards to those of us celebrating over here, despite you not celebrating Christmas etc. You are a really sweet person and I’m so glad to have “met” you ! I did enjoy my holiday. I liked reading about your wishes for 2020, and I hope that they all come true for you! Best of luck with your medical license and hopefully finding a new career. <3 I don’t have much of a list of wishes, but, I did quit my job this week. I hope to focus on my schooling and be very successful in the coming months, with less distractions. Thanks again, and happy upcoming Chinese New Year to you and your loved ones. <3 <3
u/panicpug - Thank you so much for this lovely little German card. The winter scene depicted reminds me of the countryside of Québec, where my mother grew up. The maple trees that grow there make the best maple syrup! We always had plenty of sweet maple syrup in my childhood. We probably had crêpes every weekend. I hope you had a happy holiday as well. Did you get much snow? <3
u/vickiiiie - How cute is this washi Christmas card?! I am in awe of your washi collection, as usual. I especially love that you have all different colours; I’m always a fan of non-traditional Christmas colour schemes. In fact, my roommate and I didn’t bother with a Christmas tree this year, but I do have a pretty Croton plant that I bought in the fall. It has primarily green leaves but with yellow, orange, and red veins of colour throughout - I hung a little stocking on one of its branches as my decor, lol. My kind roommate got me some washi and stickers and a big orange scented candle for Christmas, which was really unexpected and nice, since he doesn’t do any crafts (he just knows how obsessed I am!)! Did you receive any gift that you were especially happy about? Thank you again for the card and surprises <3
u/ninajyang - Thank you for all the well-wishes in the holiday card you sent me, as well as all the gorgeous and adorable stickers you sent! They were put to good use in my holiday crafting, which was clearly not as on time as yours , lol. Of course I love all of your home made postcards. You have such a good eye for capturing incredible scenes in nature! This latest postcard you sent me, of Milford Sound, is so breath-taking. The water and clouds feel like they’re moving. It would be stunning to be there ! In the distance, it looks like the water maybe ends in a waterfall?? I hope you didn’t fall down a waterfall in the boat, lol!!!!!!! Please tell me you didnt, hahaha!
u/radio-aquatic - Thank you so much for sending me a cute Christmas card, friend!!! :) I love your jaded haiku, lol. I cannot even imagine doing the last-minute gift shopping. It gets crazy! In Canada, the busiest shopping day of the whole year falls on the last Friday before Christmas. The traffic in my city was unbelievable, and I wasn’t even shopping! I was just trying to go for coffee with my friend. Except, the coffeeshops near me were closed due to power outage, so we ended up taking a roundabout route to “escape” my part of the city and avoid the traffic, and got crappy coffee at the mall next to his work. Any hot drink + a friend is worthwhile, in my books, though <3 :) Did you get any moments of calm over the holiday? And thanks for the recipe, it sounds like something that my mom would go nuts for!
u/zennet - Thank you for the holiday card exchange, friend :) I did have a fun & festive time. The card you chose was very pretty, I am a fan of glitter and of nature-inspired cards, so I love that the two were able to be together on this one pretty card!! Did you spend time with family or friends? What was the best thing you ate/drank/saw???
u/cuddlykrogan - I received your card and I immediately ran to check my Excel spreadsheet that I use for RAOC, because I didn’t remember sending you one! Turns out that I hadn’t sorted it properly, so it wasn’t alphebetized like the rest and wasn’t colour-coded yellow as a “to-do” card!! :( I am so sorry that I missed out on sending you a snarky card in time for Christmas. To say I rely on being organized because my memory is poor is an understatement. I have you on my “to-do” list now, though! Nonetheless, I loved your card. I had a big grin when I started reading Santa’s communist tirade, lol. Did you take advantage of the post-Christmas sales on all the treats? I bought a bag of red & green Mini Eggs and enjoyed the whole thing by myself on Boxing Day and did no other shopping whatsoever, lol. (Oh - plus I found a box of lovely winter-themed “holiday” greeting cards - that I can really use for any occasion - heavily discounted, so that was a bonus, too). Thank you for this cute floral fox!!! I love it so much!!! Thanks again, new friend :)
u/kira226 - aaaaa, I LOVED this handmade card you sent. Oh my goodness. I had a huge smile on my face when I pulled it out!! Plus, how sweet is it that you included a nice message on the outside of the envelope - probably made all the Canada Post workers smile, too :) I get so much mail through RAOC, I try to take time to thank my postal workers - for Christmas I left a card, bottle of iced tea, and “MERCI” brand chocolates in my mailbox for them (in a ziploc bag because of all the rain here!!) I wouldn’t have one of my favourite hobbies without them, that’s for sure! You are such a kind person, and I appreciated this so, so much. I hope your new year is starting off happy and relaxed for you, and I hope everything you’re hoping for comes true in 2020! <3
u/medicjanet - Thank you for this GLITTERY card!!! I love shiny things, including the cute snowman you sent, hahaha. And then when I opened it up to find extra stickers and a little black cat drawn just for me, I definitely made the equivalent of heart eyes emoji in real life!!! <3 aaaa thank you so much. You might not be an “artist” as you say, but you TOTALLY made my day !! happy new year to you, I hope it’s the best!!! PS - there is glitter all over my couch and I love it.
u/halfwayoutoftown - Friend, thank you SO much for this Christmas card!!! It means so much that you mailed it all the way from Singapore to get to me. :) It wasn’t exactly on time, because Canada Post has been very delayed this year, but I found it in the mailbox this morning (Jan 2) and LOVED it nonetheless. I am from a family where my mom keeps up all Christmas decorations until halfways through January, so there is still lots of time for my holiday card to have a place on my table. <3 I love the handmade aspects of your card, it is so special <3 The envelope filled with washi, stickers, and more, was SUCH a surprise and really creative for you to have on the inside of the card! I love the layout. Also, did I mention how cool the SG stamps are??? I wish Canada had a cute lion-fish taking a selfie on its stamps hahaha. Thank you again, and happy 2020 ! :)
u/bananacreampiee - Aaaaaa, for a card that I supposedly “designed” myself, this was FULL of surprises!!!! I love what you did with everything this year, it was fun to fill out your Google form, and fun to receive as well :D ! So kind of you to include all the stickers and goodness, but I have to say, I think my favourite part is the SHINY SHARK CONFETTI!!!!!! Love it. So much. You have great taste in glitter!! Speaking of taste in glitter, have you ever tried edible glitter?? I bought some last winter at the grocery store - Wilton brand - in gold. It is in a “spray” bottle but sort of comes out in a puff - and makes anything SO shiny!!! I recently made GOLD chocolate chip cookies for my friend and her wife, and last winter I was making all of my lattes topped with golden foam, haha. Would recommend. Btw, my roommate Graham says, “say thanks to sexy Valerie”, haha. :) Thanks, friend!

About After a schism with Milan Cricket & Football Club, some of the directors got together at a pub and created a separate identity, FC Internationale Milano with the famous words;
"This wonderful night bestows us with the colours of our crest: black and azure against a gilded backdrop of stars. It shall be called International, because we are brothers of the world." It took just two years for Internazionale Football Club Milano to win what was the first of 18 Scudetti for the Nerazzurri. The Golden period was, undoubtedly, from 1960-68, which gave us 2 European Cups, 3 Scudetti, & numerous other finals appearances & other smaller titles. It's known in our history as 'La Grande Inter.'
All-in-all, we're known for the Italian Treble, a history of good players, never having dropped down to Serie B, and unleashing what went on to become the bible of Italian football, the World renowned 'Catenaccio'.
Stadium: San Siro

- What went right? Most importantly, Inter brought in Spalletti, a manager who knows Serie A very well and has proven to be a leader since the first few training sessions, telling a fan off who was insulting Ranocchia. Inter was supposed to go big in the transfer market this season, Being linked with the likes of Di Maria, Arturo Vidal and Nainggolan. However due to Financial Fair Play and the Chinese government putting a limit on foreign sport investments Inter fans saw their high expectations crushed. The summer 2017 mercato was underwhelming, but functional. Some old, unhappy or deadwood players were sold or loaned (Palacio, Banega, Kondogbia, Biabiany, Gabibench). Inter then got a defensive leader in Skriniar, who exceeded all expectations and helped Inter to be the 4 the best defence in Serie A. Cancelo was Serie A’s best right back as he grooved into the team by December. The promising young Karamoh became a fan favourite. Borja Valero guided our midfield well throughout the first half of the season but was completely exhausted in January when we brought in Rafinha, who within a couple of games won and kept his spot in the starting XI, lighting up the midfield and attack in the second half of the season, contributing to the run for CL. Spalletti halted Brozovic’s transfer to Sevilla on deadline day in January and changed his position, putting him as regista for the tired Borja Valero, with outstanding results. When Icardi was injured, Eder was put as a starter and stepped up, netting 3 goals in 5 matches. Icardi did what he is paid for and secured the title of capocannoniere alongside Immobile with 29 goals each. It is his highest Serie A tally so far.
-
What went wrong? Up to January our midfield was always a man down, Borja Valero dictated the tempo in the regista cabin, while Brozovic or Joao Mario played as a 10, with mediocre results. We were solid at the back but apart from Perisic and Icardi, severely lacked end product. Candreva managed to score exactly ZERO times, although redeeming himself with 8 assists. As by now is typical to Inter, they crashed hard in winter. Rafinha hadn’t yet settled, Perisic was a shadow of his former self from December to March and Candreva couldn’t hit the goal for the life of his, Icardi can’t do everything. As is typical for Inter, we dropped a little too many points against lower midtable teams, almost putting in jeopardy the CL qualification.

- What the fans think (by FCInterMilan)
: 1. What has happened to this club since the Treble season of 2009/10? (by
u/vik1980)
- We didn't have great management, hired average coaches and didn't supply them with funds or preferred players, which left the team looking like a rudderless boat without a captain, completely without direction and constantly in a state of disrepair. i.e.- We hired Gasperini, who wanted to sell Wes, keep Eto'o and buy Palacio for his tactics. We sold Eto'o, kept Wes and ignored Palacio until Gasp had left. Similarly, when Mancini wanted an older squad to challenge Juve's title reign, we gave him younger kids because the management differed with his views. All this left the team in a constant state of flux and confusion. Alongside the already existing key players in Handanovic, Icardi and D’Ambrosio and a rotation player Brozovic, Mancini helped us take our squad to the next level, helping to attract talents like Kondogbia and Perisic. After Mancini we managed to keep and forge those talents and with Spalletti started improving the roles that were still lacking.
2. What is different about this year? - Since major investment and smart purchases had taken place in the seasons before this, we only needed to tune-up the squad, keep our key players and have enough depth to play 3 competitions without issues. This meant compensating for the loss of Rafinha and Cancelo (Nainggolan and Vrsaljko cost approx. 25mil less than the other two), buy at least two attacking players (Lautaro, Politano and maybe Keita) and reliable fullbacks.
3. Which players are you expecting to have breakout seasons? - Lautaro. Given enough playtime, which shouldn't be that hard with 3 competitions, I expect he'll have a strong season. He has been doing fantastically in the preseason and I could potentially see him as a starting partner with Icardi. (by
u/Cerozz)
-Dalbert. He had a bad first year, overshadowed by the more technically gifted Cancelo. He was rumoured as flop and a few teams were interested in buying him after this decent preseason. Spalletti is forging him as he forged Cancelo, just on the left side instead of the right one. (by
u/head_in_the_clouds69)
- Lautaro. This kid reminds me of Luis Suarez. One can even call him a cross between Tevez, Aguero & Suarez. He's technically sound, physically strong, high work-rate and good movement. He's even a solid finished off either foot. Inter have a real gem on their hands, and if they can develop him right (not use him as a AM, Trequartista, winger, but develop him mostly as a forward), he might end up surpassing Icardi & becoming one of the best forwards in World Football. Icardi's best season, in terms of assists, was when he played with Palacio as a partner. Since then, his assists have dried up simply because there's no-one to lay the ball off to. I expect that to change this season and see him getting 8+ assists. Simply put, with Lautaro's arrival, Icardi should be both worried & happy. It'll mean the clubs dependency on him will be reduced, but it'll also mean he'll have much more of a chance to move for much higher wages. If you think it's outlandish to think this, just watch Lautaro's growth this season. Also, I still haven't given up on Dalbert. If he stays, I still say he'll end up surprising Inter supporters. (by
u/vic1980)
- I am really hyped about Lautaro: his addition to the squad is exactly what we needed, last year we lacked a good back up for Icardi, which meant that Mauro had to play even when he was not 100% fit and moreover, it forced us to have basically one tactic (or slight variations of it with only 1 forward). Having Lautaro in the team increases the depth and could create a good partnership in attack. I am also hoping that Skriniar will confirm himself as one of the best CBs in the world, even in this case I think Spalletti will try to adopt the 3 atb system more often. (by
u/mangowhymango)
4. Who was the best buy so far? - Asamoah. The left side has been plagued for years (the Dalbert experiment continues). We miraculously sold Santon and Nagatomo, and were able to snatch up Asamoah on a free. So far in preseason, Kwadwo, who was a rotation player at Juventus, has shown quality and experience. Though he may not be a flashy player, he is technically gifted and can adapt to play LB, LM and LW, works hard in training and genuinely appreciates being at the club. (by
u/zodiac55)
- I think Vrsaljko and Lautaro will have a great season. I hope Radja will be a success, but he's the one I'm worried about flopping. As far as Politano goes, I expect he'll have a decent if unspectacular season and we'll pass on his option. De Vrij and Asamoah transfers carry no risk as they're free. Going off pre-season Kwadwo might actually turn out to be a rockstar while De Vrij ends up with the quieter season, which is the opposite of what I initially expected. (by
u/theallbrother)
- Lautaro will win the balon d'or in the next seven years. I fucking said it! His positioning and the way he reads the game is already on a high level. If he keeps putting in the work I think he can be one of the best players we've seen in a real long time. I'd rather not go for Rafinha and give those minutes to El Toro. (by
u/internazionale)
- El Toro is showing in pre-season that he deserves a place. I really hope he can play alongside Icardi (whether beside or behind) in the team. He is a talent and needs to play. I'm so excited for his future alongside Icardi.
Nainggolan - Not much needs to be said here. He's one of the best midfielders in Serie A and the World. He will soon decline with his age and play style, but he will give us a few good years and good value.
de Vrij - Him alongside of Skriniar can form one of the best defences in the league. They are both relatively young and incredibly talented. I have high hopes for de Vrij.
Politano - Good replacement for Candreva. I'm not exactly against Candreva like a lot of people are, but if Inter are to make the next step they need to improve in quality. Politano will provide that. He's not a superstar, but he's a great pickup to provide us depth by pushing Candreva further down the order.
Asamoah - Another great signing. If he stays healthy he'll be a great option on the left side. He's a good veteran to have.
Vrsaljko - I can't say much about him. I didn't watch the World Cup so I don't know much about him other than I heard he did good. That is a bit scary as Atletico fans don't seem to high on him and we all know players can perform well at the World Cup, earning a big transfer, and then flop. So I hope he does good. (by

(by

**Suning's Importance:**
By the time
Moratti sold the club, it was in complete disrepair. A couple of decades of
indulgence & excess as drained the club. We no longer had the young talent
to guarantee a future, or the funds to throw at young but proven players.
Thohir's importance in the turnaround cannot be overstated. His involvement was
akin to finding a banged-up sports car and giving it a complete engine
overhaul, and a spanking new paint job. Only Thohir was only in it for the
short-term. He never planned on starting a new era. Thankfully, he achieved his
goals fantastically. He turned the club around, and then found an owner who had
the long-term view Moratti longed to see at the club. Suning's time at the club
is making to buying a first-class sports car, and them assembling a complete
racing team around it.
They've
only continued Thohir's initiative of opening up Youth Academies all around the
globe, with reports of them cropping up in Asia, Africa & South America
like wild mushrooms. They're also not just taking a long-term view, by
concentrating on young players only. By their eagerness to bring Modric, they
show their football knowledge. Modric's game or physical built is not one
that'll age poorly. And his recent performances in the World Cup and influence
in Real Madrid's Treble (3xChampions League) means his brand value in China
will push Inter to the next level there.
Furthermore,
they've been involved in everything concerning not just the club, but football
in general. They've been involved in buying Serie A telecasting rights for
China, along with other major leagues. This, along with their ownership of
Jiangsu Suning FC means they're in it for the long haul. Their goal is to not
just spend money and taking Inter to the top (like Abrahimovic at Chelsea)
before losing interest. They plan on making a whole business in and around this
sector, calling it Suning Sport. Suning is a multi-billion dollar company and
have already established great contacts with the owners of Atalanta &
Sampdoria (two clubs with notoriously good youth development track record).
Given all
these facts, once Inter can free themselves of FFP, their might on the transfer
market will really begin to shine through, and the fact that they have a team
in China too, means they'll also attract massive fans there, and tempt big
names into accepting Inter before going for the golden ticket in China. Simply
put, Inter's current cycle is a snowball rolling down a mountain. It'll only
get easier to turn it into an avalanche.
**Spalletti's influence:**
In all
this, it's impossible to overlook Spaletti's influence at the club. If Ausilio
is doing such a wonderful job in the transfer market, it's thanks to Spalletti
clearly explaining to him the kind of players he wants for the team, and why he
wants them. He also understands some of the reasons behind the club not making
all the transfers he wants. This is the big difference between this market, and
Mancini demeaning the sale of Icardi to fund moves for Yaya & one of Zlatan
or Dzeko. If Vidal is not at Inter, it's because Spalletti deemed him 'not
essential' to his project. If Nainggolan is there, it's because Spalletti
clearly explained & convinced the management the reasons why he was
indispensable. If Ausilio is the thoroughbred racehorse, Spalletti is the
jockey on top of him. Simply put, not a single blade of grass in Appiano Gentile
is where Spalletti doesn't want it to be.
Whether he
ends up leading this club to eventual trophies (by way of consistent
performances & results) or just ends up becoming the Ranieri to a Jose
Mourinho type coach who takes the club to that next level is unimportant. Just
the fact that he's the first coach since Jose Mourinho who's starting a second
consecutive season at the club tells you how important his role is. He brings
continuity & stability the club hasn't seen since Mourinho himself.
_________________________________________________________________
**Inter's future as a well-oiled machine:**
Most of the
current squad is in different age group batches. There's the 24-26-year-old group
(Icardi, Politano, De Vrij, Brozovic, Vrsaljko etc.) who can keep the club
rolling for the next 5-7 years, the 30+ group (D'Ambrosio, Miranda, Handanovic,
Nainggolan, Perisic, Asamoah etc.) who'll add veteran leadership to this team,
and the 20-23 yo's (Karamoh, Skriniar, Lautaro, maybe Keita) who'll take the
club forward. Currently, the only position that'll need to get looked at in the
short future is Handanovic, and being that he's a goalkeeper, that's not a
pressing need at all.

**The Critical Last Match of the season:**
In second
last match of the season Inter was 5
th with 69 points, close behind
Lazio with 71 points. The fixtures were Inter vs Sassuolo and Lazio vs Crotone.
The last match of the season would then be Lazio against Inter. On level points
the decider in Italy is head to head points, however Inter - Lazio ended in a
0-0 draw in December. If they would draw 0-0 again in the last match (assuming
level points), the decider would be goal difference, Lazio having the best
attack in Italy with 89 goals at the end of the season (shoutout to Immobile and
Simone Inzaghi, Lazio plays formidable football). Hence Inter winning against
Sassuolo with Lazio dropping points would highly increase chances to finish 4
th
and get that sweet Champions League spot (and its deriving revenue, crucial to
get out of FFP asap).
As if… Inter
showed why they are called PAZZA INTER (crazy Inter) in a bad way also. They go
down 2-0 by the goals of die-hard Inter fan Domenico Berardi and Matteo
Politano, who just joined the Nerazzurri in the summer transfer window. Rafinha
takes Inter on his shoulders and shortens the lead, by scoring a nice goal, but
Inter don’t manage to turn it around and lose 1-2 against their bogey team
Sassuolo.
Lazio
played Walter Zenga’s Crotone the day after ([Zenga](
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Zenga) is an Inter legend,
played as a goalkeeper, nicknamed “the spiderman”) and needed a win to expand
the points gap to 5 points to qualify for CL without having to risk losing to
Inter on the final matchday. Turns out Lazio choked as much as Inter after
scoring the first goal with Lulic, Crotone came back 2-1 with the goals of Simy
and Ceccherini (Peter Cech’s Italian cousin). Only 7 minutes before the end
Milinkovic-Savic managed to get the equaliser, in fact destining Crotone to be
relegated as they needed a win. Zenga was massively celebrated by Inter fans,
however the draw against Lazio had a bittersweet taste for him as he was so
close to avoiding relegation.
It came
down to the final matchday: Lazio - Inter in Rome. The suspense is enormous,
Inter hasn’t had a crucial end of season game in a long time, hence it was
always used to show next season’s jersey, the players seeming to be with their
mind set on holidays. None of that this game.
Inter started
the match dominating in possession and Lazio very aggressively pressing them
high in their own half, managing to win a ball and get a nice action going
which finished with a shot by Marusic, which would have gone wide out but was unfortunately
deflected by Perisic’s face to make a very unlucky [own goal](
https://streamable.com/axo8v) in the 9
th minute.
Inter started pushing, but took some risks as Milinkovic- Savic hit a post on a
freekick and Lazio had a few decent chances. The goal came in the 29
th
minute when the corner taken by Brozovic was chested goalwards by the D’Ambrosio,
which Strakosha managed to block off with his hands before D’Ambrosio hit it in
the net with some sort of [bicycle kick from
behind the keeper](
https://streamable.com/dnci0). In the 41
st minute Lazio hit again on a [textbook counter](
https://youtu.be/qVExfmV2Wck?t=116) with an amazing
through ball by Senad Lulic to Felipe Anderson who was too speedy for D’Ambrosio
and slotted it perfectly past Handanovic. Inter comes out for the second half attacking,
Lazio trying to hit on the counter.
To spice
things up in the second half Spalletti brought on Eder for Candreva (someone
please take him) in the 63
rd
and the young Karamoh for Rafinha, who had a hard time unmarking himself between
the lines and played a poor match, in the 68
th minute. The referee whistles
for a penalty a few minutes later, as Vecino lands on the ground after a push
by Marusic on a corner. Inter fans celebrate, but Rocchi revokes the penalty
with the aid of VAR (correct decision as it looked dubious). In the 75
th
minute Inzaghi makes a choice that would later reveal its importance, by taking
of Immobile (who was injured prior to this game) and putting a swole fullback, Jordan
Lukaku (same build as his brother at ManU), defending the 2-1 lead. Two minutes
after the substitution De Vrij, who signed on a free with Inter 3 weeks prior
fouls Icardi in the box, who would have had free shot on goal otherwise. Icardi
steps up to [take it as cool as a
cucumber with his usual composure from the penalty spot](
https://youtu.be/qVExfmV2Wck?t=184) to tie Immobile as
joint top scorer with 29 league goals. Suspense increases as there are 12 minutes
+ extra time left for Inter to score another, however Lazio’s main attacking
threat is now out, and Felipe Anderson looks extremely tired. A minute later
Lulic gets his second yellow for an unnecessary tackle on Brozovic in Inter’s
half of the pitch, stupidly giving Inter the edge over the remaining 15
minutes. Inter puts in Ranocchia as a third CB to have an advantage on set
pieces and play some sort of 3-5-2, going all in. In the 81
st minute
on a corner both Ranocchia and Vecino make a run to the first post, the ball
flying millimetres over the head of the CB before being headed in by Vecino who
was just behind him: [LA
PRENDRE VECIIIIIIIIIINOOOOOO!](
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYDP5KHaZL0) Inzaghi desperately puts on Nani for De Vrij
in desperation but Lazio can’t turn it around anymore, Inter go to Champions League
on level points with better head to head record.

Wrap Up
** **
**Shout out
to Icardi: **Carried the team with his 29 goals, often being ice
cold in crucial moments. Candreva hasn’t scored a single one; Karamoh, Eder and
Rafinha and Brozovic had a total of 10 between them. The only one managing to
slightly keep up was Perisic with 11 goals (+11 assists).
Behaved like a true captain this transfer window, calling up, welcoming
and offering to help them settle down in Milano. Also seems to have a friend +
mentor role for Lautaro Martinez, which makes him seem like a veteran amongst the
others, although being only 25 years old.
Icardi is the kind of player of stays silent and works hard on himself
and always wants to win. He might disappear in matches but in the blink of eye
reappears where he needs to with a clinical finish. Mauro’s not very technical
but is extremely good in the air despite being “only” (compared to Dzeko’s
1.93m) and very clinical, needs few chances to score. He presses extremely well
and seemingly without exhaustion, which I just noticed in the recent friendlies
where he was on the bench and the replacements barely put any threat on the
back line of the opposing team.
He is out 8
th top scorer in history with 107 goals in 182
appearances and I can easily see him become number 1 if he stays for the next 4+
years. Top scorer is Giuseppe Meazza with 195 goals in 303 apps).
**Summary:** _Houston, we have a project._ We
sold deadwood, we kept our key players, added great functional signings and also
promising talent. Aim is to create havoc in CL, considering we’ll probably get the
group of death as we are in pot 4. Object is to have a good showing. Round of 8
would be good, if we aren’t drawn against a Top 5 team then quarterfinal would be
absolutely awesome for this team with little experience in such a competition. In
the league the aim is not to challenge Juve for the scudetto, but to firmly establish
ourselves within the top 4. Will be tough considering Lazio and Milan’s good
mercato and the Roma’s and Napoli’s consistency in being top 3 in recent years.
However, I think Napoli might be a little weaker than last year and Roma
approximately the same, has lost experience but gained a lot of
unpredictability and young talent, that, if nurtured right, can give them good
results.
**Why like
them:** We're
impartial to colour, race, nationality or creed. If you're a good football
player and have grit to be there, there's a place for you in the team. As long
as you follow the same guidelines in showing support, there's a place for you
between the fans. Highest fan attendance in Italy, good tifos.
**Why
dislike them:** You
are a fan of a team in Pot 1-3 of the Champions League draw. Inter, through
poor and non-existent European experience of the past, will likely be in a
group of death scenario and should not be taken lightly. Apart that, there's no
reason. Unless you support a rival Italian club, you can't not love the
founding principles of this club.
**If the
team was a cartoon character, who would it would be:** Popeye, before AND after he's
had his spinach showing both sides of la PAZZA INTER.
